The Mortgage Accounting Assistant performs assigned responsibilities in Servicing and Mortgage Accounting, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable.
Must comply with all BSA/AML requirements as well as any mandatory changes. The following job functions are not all-inclusive. The associate will be required to perform other job-related tasks/responsibilities requested by the manager.  Job duties may change as required by needs of company.  Must complete all required industry and compliance training as required by Plaza Home Mortgage.
  1. Timely, accurate posting of accounts receivable billing and payments
  2. Accounts receivable reconciliation and research
  3. Incoming check processing –deposits and forwards
  4. Various accounts payable responsibilities and back-up to include credit card processing and check runs
  5. Timely, accurate reconciliation of post-purchase adjustments with investors and subservicer, including forwarding or collecting amounts due to/from the appropriate parties
  6. Servicing accounting responsibilities and back-up to include boarding assigned loans for servicing and review and reconciliation of loan exceptions and servicing loan status report
  7. Account analysis and variance resolution for assigned accounts which may include escrow liability and mortgage insurance liability
  8. Occasionally cross-train coworkers in selected tasks
  9. Additional accounts payable, accounts receivable, servicing, and/or general accounting responsibilities as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent required; college degree in accounting or related field preferred
  • 2+ years experience in mortgage accounting or mortgage loan servicing
  • Working knowledge of arithmetic and basic algebra skills required for accounting
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working in accounting and servicing systems
  • Business appropriate verbal and written communication skills required
  • Excellent customer service skills with investors and servicers
  • Expert with Quickbooks and ability to navigate through different accounting software and databases is a must; data analysis and report writing a plus
  • Must understand business transactions and determine appropriate accounting, servicing and investor handling of such transactions
